So I sideloaded the 51.1. update last night. My impressions after a few hours of use is:

+ Seems to be faster and smoother than before. Doesn't lag and stutter as much (though I still wouldn't call it buttery smooth). It just feels snappier and more responsive than before.
+ I think the super aggressive ram management has been toned down. Now I can swap from tab to tab on Chrome and it won't have to reload the page every time. Doesn't seem to instantly kill off apps if they're on displayed on the screen.
+ Apps seem to load faster for me and the multitasking button brings up the app previews faster.

- The tab has randomly reset on me twice now in about 3 hours use....Don't know why, but not very comforting.
- Charging the tab is still slowwww. Was hoping the update would speed it up.
- Still gets quite hot near the camera even just doing something basic as web browsing. Was hoping this would be addressed too.
- I feel that auto brightness is all over the place. Gets too low or gets too bright. I still find myself manually setting the screen brightness works best.

Overall a nice (and IMO very much needed) update to the device. Much better experience than when I first got it. 5.0.1 had a lot of issues with ram management and the tab just not feeling that fast. 5.1.1 is a lot better. Not perfect, but going in the right direction.

You really need to wait a week or two to see, my N9 was fine for a while after dumping cache and rebooting for a couple for a couple of days at least.

Took me forever to get the stupid think sideloaded. Kept getting into a boot loop. Got it working before this morning. Can't wait to get home!

Just bought one. In two days I went from 5.0 to 5.02 to 5.1.1. It was a short journey from infuriating to pleasant.

Now, it works and works fairly well. No complaints.

I think the Nexus 9 is a good deal, at present. Lots of "open box specials" that got returned in recent months from unhappy customers.

I'm getting the tab resetting on randomly a few times now. Happened again last night.

Might have to factory reset it. It's quite annoying when it happens.

have you tried a cache clear from recovery after the update sometimes that can really help :)

Edit, I'm enjoying it so far just took the OTA update and everything seems a lot snappier :)
we shall see down the road if it bogs down or just keeps powering through.
Right now this tablet is where it should have been at release, Awesome!!!!!!!!

Has anyone run into this? Can I proceed? It hasn't rebooted to a normal startup.

This is what I'm getting on the last step:

C:\Windows\platform-tools>fastboot -w update image-volantis-lmy47x.zip
target reported max download size of 518205818 bytes
archive does not contain 'boot.sig'
archive does not contain 'recovery.sig'
failed to allocate 1894839552 bytes
error: update package missing system.img

I did the OTA download and install several days ago. My N9 is running just fine but to be honest, I don't really see any difference in operation from 5.0.2. What are your experiences?

Quite a noticable improvement in 5.1.1 to me. My browser (Firefox) no longer lags when exiting to homescreen.

Does not get so hot too in lighter websites unlike last time.

I just went into recovery for the heck of it about an hour ago and cleared the cache on my N9.
You guys should give that a try you might notice a little improvement especially after we just got the 5.0.2 update then jumped to 5. 1. 1
Clean out all that old junk :)

One day with 5.1.1 from 5.0.2 all OTA push updates completed with no issues and no cache wipes.

Thus far, the tablet charges faster (took 2hrs for 10% to 100% before 5.1.1 took at least double that); smooth and fast transitions into and out of chrome; no redraws; and data in apps loads fast, eg Google newsstand, google now, etc all fast.

I agree. I have found the tablet is much more responsive and not much lag anymore. It feels like how the tablet should have been out of the box.

Did the 5.02, then straight to the 5.1.1 OTA update. Seems pretty smooth, but haven't had a chance to really use it a lot.

I've been noticing some weird boot up after the 5.1.1 update. When the tablet is off, when I press the power button, it skips the Google screen and goes directly to the spinning colored dots, then boots up normally? Any ideas why it is skipping the Google screen??

Also, when i try to clear cache in recovery, it hangs for a while and does nothing. I did not notice it taking this long in clearing cache before on other devices... Is this something anyone else is seeing??

I received the OTA 5.1.1 update last week and have had many problems. I've gone through clearing the cache all the way through doing a factory reset. Most of my apps fail to launch including standard google apps such as Google Drive and Photos. Other 3rd party apps such as Firefox and ESPN don't launch.

Is anyone else experiencing these? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you don't need a services or framework update in play, otherwise I'd factory reset and restore from the backup.

Really a bit frightful what others are going through.

Does a factory reset clear cache automatically as part of the process?

I used Wug's Nexus Toolkit to unlock and install latest build. With all the issues popping up maybe a clean install is in order. Yet, those doing it this way are still running into problems. Yikes.
