does vzw have levels of insurance?
do you guys get insurance?

thoughts? comments?

appreciate the feedback.

having to replace a phone down the road before your 1 or 2yr contract comes up for an upgrade gets expensive ..$5/month premium and a $50 deductible to have a new phone overnited to your doorstep is good deal..had that experience with the Blackberry Storm 3 yrs back..I insure all phones on my acct..

My credit card gives me a 1 year extended warranty and 90 day protection for damage or loss. I'm passing on the insurance.

I just bought insurance from SquareTrade. For the Nexus, it was $124 for 2-years before coupon. You can usually find a 20-30% off coupon for it. Mine was a single use one for 35% off that they sent me. Ended up being $89.

Take a look at ensquared insurance. It's cheaper ($58), has a lower deductable and you can file 3 claims in a year (I think that's right). I'm probably going to switch to it.

I never keep a device longer than 6 months so I don't mind paying the small monthly fee so I can have coverage during the time I have it. Don't want to put out the money for a 2 year plan when I know for a fact I won't have the phone that long. Even though most will pro rate the refund, no need in me in going through the hassle.

one person said the monthly rate is 5 dollars, another said 6...
I can assure you, if you buy the insurance through verizon, you will pay at least 8, 9, or 10 dollars per month..they have raised the price over the years for our "advanced devices"

probably better to go with one of the other companies listed...

Insurance has saved my ass in the past. The touch screen on my OG just started acting up randomly. And it was out of warranty. Luckily this happened during that open sign up period in the spring. Free replacement.

I say get it. You never know if you might need it.

Says $5.99 on my account. My Incredible was $4.99. My Storm $3.99. heh, however the phone prices have went up pretty considerably since the Storm. $299 -- $199 -- $99

I remember when insurance used to be very cheap.... 3.99. But has gone up as the devices have become more expensive to replace.

To the OP, there are several warranty options out there. You can go through VZW for the monthly fee, you can go squaretrade or if you buy from a 3rd party retailer like BB then you can purchase their warranty program. I think it all depends on you. How long do you plan on having the device, where are you buying it from and who has the best coverage for your situation. Just do a little research and see what's best for you. But I think we all can agree that some type of coverage is best especially with these types of devices.

The insurance without the extended warranty was $5.18 a month for me. Just use it until the price of the phone comes down in a few months. Covers damages, theft, etc. Makes rollin' with no case or screen protector a much easier decision.

Can anyone tell me why to get insurance + the extended warranty? Does it depend on the type of issue?

I got the BB insurance. $9.99 a month but no deductible. and doesn't cover if its lost or stolen

Just bought youngest daughter a Stratosphere. Verizon insurance is $6.99 per month. Radio Shack had less expensive, but it does not cover loss or theft, which is a distinct possibility in high school.

Also, the deductible for smartphones with Verizon wad $89.00 when I got my OG (11/6/09) which was up from my Motorola Q. With the Q, deductible wad only $50.00 Deductibles on smartphones are now $150.00

I am in the insurance industry, and like Chris Rock says, insurance should be called "incase happens" Nobody wants to pay for it, until they need it!

If you get the insurance, you won't need it.

If you don't get it, you will wish you had.

Getting insurance improves your karma.
