My device is rooted, so at the moment I can't try what's in the first post, but if necessary I can unroot tonight and give it a try.

Let's go back to the beginning: Is your phone currently working, on the prior version of the software? If so, go to Settings / About device, and tell me what the last three characters of the Build Number and Baseband are.
From that screen, tap on Status. What does it say at the very bottom, for Device status?
Has your phone ever been rooted?
Is the update file in the top level of your SD card, or in a folder? If it's in a folder, try putting it at the top level instead.

I downloaded the first instructions.... Didn't work first couple times....so I downloaded zip again still getting error....

That's the reason, right there. Was your device ever rooted? Is it rooted now?

If not, try taking out the SD card, rebooting, and check the Device status again. If it no longer says modified, you should be able to copy the update zip to your internal SD card and apply it from there. (This assumes you have a removable SD card, of course.) If that doesn't do it, let me know. I need to do some searches and look for additional info.

Just noticed your most recent post. I don't know how you unrooted, but it apparently didn't reset everything correctly. Or Sprint has gotten more strict about applying updates. The easiest thing to do at this point, I think, would be for you to root again following this procedure: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...e-updated-how-root-your-sprint-galaxy-s3.html . You won't lose any of your data.

Then apply the MD4 update using the steps in Post #2. There's no real reason to unroot after that.

If your phone is completely stock, you can follow the steps in post #1 of this thread to apply the update. It's the same update that you will eventually get OTA from Sprint.

When moving the files onto the internal memory of the phone, do they need to be unzipped? If so, which files need to be selected? I'm having a bit of a brain fart apparently :-[

Don't unzip them. The flashing process does what it needs to with the zip

It says status normal, will my device be rooted when I install the update !?

Are you already rooted? If you aren't this will not root for you. You wiill need to use Skunkapes guide to rooting.

I don't wanted to be rooted will it still work?! Or I need to rooted in order to work ? The update?!

If you follow the link to XDA, freeza has the regular ota and instructions for uppdating non-rooted

Its the regular/stock ota. All factory, non rooted. Or like meyer said a few posts back, you can wait for it to hit your phone since you are still stock

Yeah but I still want the ota update and I followed post 1 and it keeps saying error to verify. My device status is saying normal and I put the zip file on to the external storage ( not in the folder ) and still no luck ... Does anyone have a new ota zip file I could download ?!
