Your way to update to MD4

Sure thing. If you have any questions about that root process, or run into any issues, just let us know. We'll do our best to help.

I wanted to go again through post #2, did the process and did a dirty install I guess you would say (no factory reset), and when I tried to use the phone SU comes up and asking for permission, I try to allow it, but it ends up freezing. What happened?

I think I found my problem, this odexed version, I'm guessing, it installs superuser again, I think what happened is that there is too many superusers happening at once that the system goes crazy all over.

Still playing around with fixing this issue, but does Xposed Installer screw things around for this type of process?

Fixed it all is done, found out that it was an application I believe that made this problem so much to freeze the phone. It was a kids app for my daughter that messed it up >_<

Awesome! Using the dirty flash method, i didn't lose any apps or data! Thanks!

I'm a little behind and still on LJ7 it works fine but I'm tired of the update notification. An earlier post said to update to MA6 first then to MD4 but the MA6 files are apparently no longer avalable from the MA6 thread. Any advice to get up to date would be appreciated. I'm rooted with CWM.

Use method two. If suggest creating a backup beforehand though, just Incase you run into an error

Yes, if you have CWM you need to use post 2, and it won't matter what your current version is.

Woke up this morning to MD4 update alert. I'm stock ROM, rooted, and TWRP recovery.

I followed Method #2 to the letter except I did not perform a Factory Reset. The result was a boot loop. The screen would display my pattern lock screen but it was not responsive to touch. Then after about a minute, it would self-reboot.

Is this because I have over 100 apps (many stock) frozen via Titanium Backup?

As a test, I performed a Factory Reset and I'm getting the stock Welcome screens, but I'd rather not have to go through the pains of restoring, rebuilding and configuring everything from scratch because that would take hours.

Thanks in advance!

I can't update using Post #1. Every time I try I get an error message. I tried to root my phone over the weekend and I used mskip's toolkit 7.0.0. I lost wifi plus my phone wasn't rooted. I tried again and I guess I soft bricked my phone. I did a recovery but kept getting all kinds of errors. So I finally did a factory reset. I now have 4.1.1 and when I try to upgrade per post 1 I get an error. When I boot to recovery mode the little android guy is laying down with a red triangle. Here are my settings, Device Status=Normal, Build Number=JR0o3L.L710VBLJ7, Kernel=3.0.31-944783, Baseband version=L710VPBMB1, of course 4.1.1. My counter is 1. I am thinking from a few post that I need to reset it before I can update. I have 2 files, one takes you to 4.1.1 and the othe file is the MB4 one I found on xda per Billard412. I also am thinking I could boot and then use Triangle Away. At this point I could use some suggestions.

I've been through half this thread but decided to just ask...anybody else lose root after applying this?

My update went flawless by the way...just when it was done I ran root checker and it wasn't rooted. I already had the files on the phone so a quick run of Odin and re rooted it but thought it was strange that it was undone.

I didnt looses root. step #2 worked perfect for me. only thing I cant geg multi winfow to work. dont wipe data or youll looses root. just the 2 caches worked. load both files then reboot. takes a min to boot up then updates your apps. once updating apps is complete phone will start and update its self. once completed your done!

Sprint Galaxy S3 - been testing different roms like CM 10.1 RC5, Wickedsentations and even back to stock sprint 4.1.1. Throughout the process I had baseband MD4 but when I flashed back to stock 4.1.1 it went back to LJ7. I then flashed back to CM 10.1 RC5 (liked this one the best) and still see the modem on LJ7. How can I safely upgrade just the modem to MD4?

Thanks.

Download the modem you want and flash it. It's independent of the ROM. Some people get better results with different modems and intentionally run an older modem with a newer ROM.
