Ever since I got the new S20 Ultra, I now have to watch Two ads before each video on YouTube. Is it an update with YouTube or something with the new phone? It's driving me crazy. Every single video there's Two 5 second ads I have to watch.

Do you not have YouTube premium? I haven't watched a YouTube ad in years. I don't see how it would be phone related, it's probably a YouTube thing.

YouTube has nothing to do with phone. If you have YouTube premium you won't get ads, if not you will get YouTube ads on any phone. Obviously there are other sketchy ways to bypass YouTube ads, but YouTube premium is worth it especially since all my family members use as part of YouTube premium family to have no ads.

YouTube premium is well worth the money if you watch a lot of videos and stream music. It includes Google play music and YouTube music. Get the family plan and you can have 5 other people join and split the cost.

It's a relatively new modification to YouTube's ads. I noticed that as well -- many times, the first ad has to be watched all the way through (usually no longer than 10 seconds), and then the second ad can be skipped after 5 seconds.

I find YouTube Premium well worth the few quid.
What phone did you change from?
It could be that the add free thing was tied to that phone, like a get YouTube free if you buy this phone kinda thing, but then actually tied to that device.

Please, no mentions of apps that violate YouTube's terms of service. The ones that try to get around payment requirements amount to theft.

I had the S10 Plus before. I don't have the premium. I always was able to tolerate the few ads that I did have to watch. I pay for all the steaming services that are available Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc... Was hoping I didn't have to sign up for another service but maybe I will. I figured it was YouTube but thought I'd see if anyone noticed the change when they got the S20. Appreciate the comments.

I got 6 months YouTube Premium free when I got my Note 10+. Is Samsung not offering that with the S20's?

I believe it's 4 month or something like that. I just signed up for it. I like the YouTube music better than any other of my music subscriptions. Worked out for the best.

It coulda been 4. I think it was Spotify that I got 6 months. Can't really remember now.

Yes it's the S20 Ultra.

Tried it on my S10+. Tried same time opening the vid, S20 Ultra first, and finally S10+ first. Every vid the S20 Ultra opens there's the two short ads. The S10+ didn't have any.

Yes - I am glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this. I never had this issue with the s10+

A couple other possibilities are that they're rolling this out piecemeal, or they're testing it on only select devices (which is what Facebook often does -- you can have one device with some new feature or interface, while the other one has the old look).

No ads here with the ultra. I do have YouTube premium with my Google music account that I got grandfathered in for $6.99/mo because I was a Google music early adopter.

How do you let the app know you should get the deal because you purchased an Ultra?

It will automatically present that option when you open the app and were not a subscriber or had a free trail earlier. Obviously you can try with a new Google account if you still want to take the trial.

* With eligible purchase. New customers of YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, YouTube Red and Google Play Music only. Redeem in the YouTube application on eligible devices between February 14, 2020 and March 5, 2021. Form of payment required. $11.99/mo after trial.

Same, and now the ads drop down and sometimes take up the whole freaking screen. You have to click the x to make half of it go away again. I think they're testing out what they can get away with. It's ridiculous now to the point that I get pissed and just close out YouTube. They will see their viewing numbers drop being this aggressive.

Like others, I already pay for other services. I like YouTube, but I don't need a premium service.
