Title says it all really. Have YouTube set to restricted in battery settings but it still runs, in the last 24 hours it has run for 8 hours in the backgrouns and is the biggest batterty user.

Is this just another one for the Pixel 6 bug list?

Hi, there! I actually haven't heard of YouTube running in the background as being a Pixel 6 glitch. Since you've already tweaked the restriction settings, have you tried restarting your device? Maybe seeing if this issue persists in Safe Mode? Sometimes turning the phone off and on gets rid of these pesky glithces. It works well with my Pixel 5 -- and every other phone I've had, for that matter. :P

I have a few apps that still use background data even though they are set to not, and/or set to "optimized". I've now started setting many apps for "deep sleep" because of this. I think it helps for some, but not all. For me, YouTube isn't even selectable to be set as an app for "deep sleep". It kind of pisses me off that too many apps are default set to be allowed to run in the background, and especially ones that are "integrated" in with the OS. The "automatically reset permissions" feature if an app is not frequently used, I am also not convinced helps, if that undoes any "added restrictions" that someone might add.

What happens if you Force Stop it in the Settings>Apps menu? Does it start back up and hog battery again at some point?

It is not running 100% of the time but something is starting it, it is averaging it seems 6-8 hours backgroun d activity per 24 hours

It is in battery usage stats, was hoping the February update might have fixed it but alas not!Screenshot_20220210-173046.jpg

You turned off background play and autoplay in settings?

You could also try logging out of google acct and see if that makes a difference

This what i was looking for if its top on list in my screenshot , but thats still not a good indicator because if you just charge battery up and go into YouTube for 20 minutes guess what going be high on the list , yes youtube , u would need something like accubattery to diagnose this further the stock one not enough.

Yes but it shows 4:42 of background activity out of the total 4:48

Are you watching any embedded YouTube videos in other apps or browsers?

I don’t recall using it at all actually letalone almost 5 hours. I guess embedded could explain it.

Yeah, maybe if it's an embedded video in an app or browser, it's inappropriately staying active if that app hasn't been closed out of RAM.
