Recently my T-Mobile GS5 constantly keeps buffering when watching youtube. This is the first time its ever done this. It will play about 30 seconds or so and then buffer. Sometimes if I restart the phone it stops. Any idea whats causing this?

It's possible for the mobile data reception to be choppy or stuttery, even if the signal bars show that it's strong. Have you asked T-Mobile about this?

Are other streaming video sites buffering as well?

Nope but I think I will if I keep having these issues. And not just youtube. Never had this issue before with my phone

That didn't work. Tried installing the updates, master resetting the phone, all to no avail. My wife who has the same phone on my account recently started having the same issues. It's driving me nuts. I also went into a T-Mobile dealer and they were pretty much useless. All they cared about was selling me a new phone stating it was an internal hardware issue. Bull. I also discovered that it only seems to do it when it's in 720 or 1080 streaming. If it's lower then that, it doesn't do it.

To try to narrow the problem down, it would help to try it on wi-fi if you can. If it doesn't happen on wi-fi, then you've narrowed it down to the T-Mobile network. If it does happen on wi-fi, then it may be more of a software issue with the phone.

You don't have any power saving modes turned on, right? And you don't have Restrict Background Data turned on in Settings>Data Usage?

Nope it works just fine on wifi. I also don't have any power saving modes or anything like that and background data is not restricted.

Well, it must be the T-Mobile network. Have you tried calling T-Mobile on the phone (not the store)? Ask to be connected to their tech support people, and see if they can escalate to tier 2 support if the initial person can't help.

So I believe I discovered what the problem is... any person currently with t-mobile is automatically enrolled in data binge which restricts your data to 480p so it will save your 4G data. I have an unlimited 2 lines for 100 dollars plan so I don't care about that. I had to switch it off my account. So far no more buffering

A-ha! I had forgotten about that. Yes, that was probably it. It's a good thing to remember for T-Mobile users--you can turn off Binge On by going to your My T-Mobile account website. There might be a way with the T-Mobile account app, but I haven't tried there.
