Hi there, I am pretty sure I am not the only one and that this is not device related:

since yesterday, 3/23/2012, youtube displays an error when playing any video
everything else works, searching, seeing the different top lists, etc.

error message:

There was a problem while playing
Touch to retry

That's a new message to me.

I run droidwall and have everything basically closed, apps like youtube only get opened when I use them, then for wifi and gsm at the same time.

Worked before.

Now it wants the firewall entirely removed, even if I open all known apps.

As a network expert this means to me:

youtube changed something and requires an open outgoing port that is not covered by the ports listing per app.

anyone else ran into that (maybe I am the only person closing even market when I don't use it, and maps and such).

everything else works like normal, this is the only app that all of a sudden requires all firewall rules to be removed

did not yet run wiresharks to check while it is going through my wifi and lans.

Just asking first if this is seen by others too.

Yep, I have that spy stuff disabled, I kind of sense that google might use the popular youtube now to move some spy stuff into that app.

don't laugh: galaxy prevail, rooted, firewalled,

2.2.2
droidwall 1.5.7
youtube 2.1.6 (titanium backup 4.8.4.1 free will not uninstall, just hangs)

I don't really need it, but it is indicative of something maybe happening that we should look into.
I can watch Jenna Marbles also on my gfx stations, youtube is not a center of importance.
Just looks like google is moving some spywork to that, anyone saw similar?

If this is just me then I'll go and packet trace, so far my network works as always for everything else. Youtube just sticks out now like a sore thumb, since yesterday evening..

cheers,,

Mike
