YouTube stuttering and lagging above 480p?

[Android Central Question]

Hello! I recently acquired a Samsung A02, and YouTube runs extremely laggy and choppy if i try to play video above 480p.
I've tried factory resetting the phone, clearing cache, trying YouTube with and without updates, and forcing HW Overlays in Developer Options, among other things.
Can this be fixed somehow, or is the phone just not capable of handling 720p and upwards?
I sincerely hope that that isn't the case, since before this phone i had a 2015 J7 and i never had any issues playing videos on YouTube.

Yes, i did try uninstalling the update to YouTube.

Correct, the issue is present in both wi-fi and mobile data. If anything, the issue only seems to be present on YouTube. I have tried to play 1080p on other sites and i had no problem.

When you say you cleared cache, do you mean the YouTube app cache, or the system cache partition?

If you haven't already, try clearing the app cache and app data for YouTube in Settings>Apps​.

What happens if you let it buffer for a while before you start playback?

No difference at all. I'm starting to think that it's because of the phone, but i've used way older phones and i've never had issues with YouTube :/

Yes, i also googled if some other people had this issue with the phone and nothing came up.
I got the phone three days ago, today i called Samsung Customer Support; they said they'd get in contact with me but i dunno lol
