Anyone know if z4root works with the latest update from vzw? I haven't rooted before, and I haven't found anyone running stock who tried to root afterwards...I love my X, but the bloatware has become to much of an eyesore

Yes is works. I think I had to close/restart and click permanent root 2 time, but it worked fine. I would guess that it took a couple of tries because it needed access to a file that the system was using.

Yep it took me a few tries but it worked great!

I personally ended up doing a factory reset before it worked but it worked fine after that.

it also took me a couple of tries for some reason. seemed to hang at first couple of tries, then after a reboot or two, it worked (of course, it also rebooted the device when complete).

The temporary root hung up a bunch of times. The permanent worked after my second try and I've got root (my first root attempt!)

Now I just hope I don't screw this up too bad...

Yeah, for some reason it wouldn't work the first couple tries, but after a couple reboots it worked just fine. :)

Back up and running with adfree and titanium. :)

Yup. It worked in about two minutes for me after installing the ota.

Note: the x is an interesting animal. Everyone has a different experience.

What is the difference with z4root permanent root vs temporary root? If I permanent root can I still unroot my phone?

Temporary root only keeps you rooted until you power off, then you lose root.
It doesn't really make sense for most, but it is the only option available for people with EVO's or other NAND locked devices.

Yes, you can unroot anytime after permanent rooting & it reverses all traces of root.

Thanks! I rooted before with Rootmyx2 and was successful. Before the new OTA update I attempted to un root but it failed. I installed z4Root and was able to unroot my phone with it and then I was not sure if the permanent root would cause problems in the future. Thanks again this forum is the bees knees! LOL.

Updated my device and ran Z4root without a problem. My phone has been awesome since the update, rooting and ApeX.

After I installed OTA, first thing I did, I opened Z4 and clicked to root. After 2-3 tries no success. Then I noticed that I also have an option to unroot, clicked that, the phone did its thing and rebooted. Then I clicked to root and worked perfectly. I guess the Z4 thought that I was still rooted even though I obviously wasnt after OTA.

It's not uncommon for phones to stay rooted after an update. You are one of the lucky ones.

All you have to do is restart and the use z4root and it will work everytime
