RIP unlimited data: Tiered data plans coming to Verizon July 7th | ZDNet

Big Red has their bloodsucking tools in place it would appear. Pretty pricey for the amount of data permitted. I find this line most telling:

"There is no word on what Verizon plans on doing with its current unlimited subscribers, though it?s likely the company will just force them to move to the new plans."

Good luck with "forcing" that Verizon. That constitutes a breach of contract and I'll take my business elsewhere without penalty thank you very much.

I use wi-fi at home and am at 2.6gb LTE use since 6/1this month. And this does NOT constitute "heavy use" IMHO. I could live with a 5gb cap for $30 but $50 for that plus $20 for 2gb hotspot and this really starts to add up. Like it's cheap to start with....NOT!

Considering the problems with stability on the new network and the inherent Thunderbolt issues that I'm still somewhat convinced are not HTC's problem but are caused by Verizon to start with, I'm about to rethink my loyalty to Big Red as a customer.

I think it's marvelous they are jacking prices already for a service they can barely deliver.

And if that happens, let's see how quickly I switch to Sprint. Their coverage isn't the best but that would be ridiculous. But I doubt Verizon would do that as its pretty much suicide. Plus, that's far to expensive for mobile data when Comcast offers me 250 GB per month at 20 MBPS (which is actually running at about 30 MBPS) for far less than the 10 GB Verizon plan. I realize it's the convenience of mobile, but it's still unacceptable and I'll never pay it. I would only need 5 GB at the most though, but not for $50 ($40 with corporate discount).

EDIT: Your initial post confused me a bit and possibly others. Verizon may force us to move to a tiered data plan when we sign a new contract but not before. Your post sounded as if we would be forced to switch as soon as the plans go effective. Obviously, that's not the case. I would never sign a new contract with Verizon if this happens. I'll just purchase a new phone at retail as it's cheaper in the long run.

i agree. i would go get an evo 3d or something on sprint before i pay $50 for data.

but if they did "force" it sprint and att would get so much business

I knew it was coming, but $30 for 2GB? Yeah, if they forced me to get tiered data, I would look to switch carriers. And $30 for 2GB, the price is not right. Not that it would make any difference, but I did tweet @VerizonWireless saying AT&T has them beat on tiered data pricing for 2GB, and if forced to lose unlimited, I'm looking for other carriers. I also said this is a step backwards.

FYI It's gone moment later

What else would you expect from any corporation? Verizon wants nothing to do with the negative side of this and will continue to delete posts. It's only a matter of time before Verizon runs advertisements telling customers that they now have more choice.

Makes you wonder (and no, I'm not a conspiracy nut) if MyVerizon wasn't being withheld from the Thunderbolt "officially" on purpose because they didn't want to make it easy for users to see how much data LTE can chew up.

Not every Thunderbolt user is a Forum user nor do they give a crap about what's under the hood of their cars, their phones or anything else they own.

These are the people Verizon is counting on to get blindsided by gouging overcharges on their bill for "failing to pay attention".
