Zedge harmful?

Never had an issue with the Zedge app but if a person prefers not to use the app they can always access Zedge via their Url bar.

Personally I don't feel the need to activate the onboard virus scanner or download one. Just my personal choice.

Never had any issue with Zedge either. Or ES (they have a pretty fast search algorithm, especially when starting from /).

I uninstalled QuickPick and ES a long time ago when they were sold to CM and DU respectively. More recently both were removed from the Play Store and if I recall correctly ES never managed to make its way back.

With Zedge was a bit different. It started to have more aggressive ads and I almost stopped using it, preferring other wallpaper apps. One day when I was checking the Memory settings I saw that Zedge appeared as 'Always running (100%)'. That was an instant red flag for me, force stop, clear data and uninstall without leaving that screen. Puffff.

Zedge is installed on my device & I never see it listed as running in the background. But I do restrict a lot of my apps to not be able to run in the background if they are not used alot.

Yes, I'm not sure how it's working now, I uninstalled it a while ago. Maybe they changed a few things after the recent scare.

Yeah my battery care warned me few times draining battery , I put it in the to sleep apps until I use it.

Granted, ES has been reported to have some problems, but it's fast to get to /, and seems a bit "closer to the metal" than most. And since it isn't causing me any problems, I've kept it (but not updated it).

As for Zedge, I turn my phone off every night, and only use Zedge a few times a year, so it's almost never running. But I'll bear that in mind the next time I use it.

Also got the message, got scared and deleted it straight away - their wallpapers are not that great anymore - but I do use them alot for ringtones and message alert tones
Wonder if it's safe now again... do we trust them again.. or rather stay away...and if I stay away - where else can I download message alert tones... I do like to customize mine a lot

It turns out that I didn't delete the app from one of my Android phones so there was an update to this app waiting for me. I updated it and so far it's not showing up in my battery stats at all.

I only used it to install the whisper notification that was removed in 9.0. I discovered on my Note 10+ that when I deleted this app, the whisper notification remained so the app isn't needed to keep the downloaded tones and pictures.

yeah...unlucky for me..when I got my new Note 10, I have not updated my notification sounds as yet..they all still default... got the message Zedge is harmful..deleted it .. now I can't access my notification sounds...
not a happy chappy at this stage :(
