I am coming from a 512GB Note 20 Ultra with a 512GB SD Card going to a ZF3 with 512GB, anyone REALLY missing the SD Card?

I really thought I would be limited by a 512GB Phone, but on reflection, my storage usage on the phone itself has been minimal and the only reason I really used the SD Card is because it's there.

Was just wondering, regardless if you got the 256 or 512, on what you thought about the dropping of the SD Card?

Looking back, dropping the SD Card when you only had 32GB or 64GB of storage on the device seemed to be more of an impact, but with how much storage there is on these flagship devices, coupled with Cloud Storage, is it REALLY that big of a deal now?

SD are mainly for people are constantly recording. Average user would never fill 128G let alone 512GB. It's a piece of mind to have SD handy just incase. People are normally lazy when time to remove pictures or video from the device. Mine, I have OneDrive and Personal Cloud, I often clear them out before big trips.

For me, I am adjusting myself to life without the MicroSD card. I used it to store my music library and my photos/videos mainly. I am trying to use the cloud more and save only things I need in case I don't have access to the cloud (like in a few minutes when I hit the underground subway). My music is in the cloud, my photos are backed up to the cloud and I will have to clean out my phone more often when things are backed up. It's been ok so far. I couldn't do less than 512gb, though.

I do sometimes take long videos at 4k, 60fps on my Note20U. I haven't done that yet with this phone so I'll just have to be strategic with storage use or use another device. I think it'll be ok.

I can't remember the last time I used SD card... I've had phones with SD card slots and never inserted one …

After I put my lossless music collection on my 256 GB S21 Ultra, I had about 60 GB left, so I bought the 512 GB edition fold for more breathing room. But I'm an edge case; most people don't have that much lossless audio on their phones. (And I wouldn't either if I didn't have a good quality USB-C DAC and headphones to take advantage of the lossless audio.)

I had 256GB Note 10 Plus and went without SD to Disneyland for 5 days. Didn't even fill 256gb internal storage. :) You and you alone will determine how much you use. Everyone are different. Buy what you need, not what other are telling you.

Without adding additional media and in the midst of setting up and installing my apps, I am already not far from the available capacity of the 256gb model I believe. I always buy based on need. Imagine if I added my personal media library.

Can't even remember the last time i used SD card on a phone, been 4-5 years now I guess and won't miss it one bit. I have everything I need in all cloud services for quite sometime now and the way I use multiple devices SD card was never a thing for me. I know many people miss it but me never really cared for SD card.

Cloud saving is key if you don't want to lose your images/videos/docs and everything in between. That's why I set up my home lab NextCloud. We live in the digital world, save save save everything (redundancy) ;)

Well, I have to admit that my usage has changed now that I have been really thinking about it since making this post.

I used to store a LOT of music on my phone. I have Spotify Premium now.
I used to store a LOT of AudioBooks on my phone. I have Audible now.
I used to store a LOT of images and videos on my phone. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Samsung TV and more, and 1TB OneDrive storage where my imaged and personal videos are stored now (and I do take them off my device after a while).

I have come to realize that, in all honesty, I probably will be more than fine without the SD Card. I guess I saw it more of a security blanket than anything. Coming to terms with no SD Card after EVERY PHONE I have owned (except when I went to the Dork Side and had an iPhone for a short time) has had SD Card support. Now, I need to find something to do with my 512GB Card. I wonder if it will work in my GoPro... :P

Thanks all for the responses and for getting me to REALLY think hard about it and come to terms with no more SD Card. I think if the trend keeps going and they actually put a good amount of storage on the devices, who cares about SD Cards?

Besides, I have one of these I keep nearby in case I need to off-load anything quickly anyway: https://smile.amazon.com/SanDisk-1TB-Extreme-Portable-SDSSDE61-1T00-G25/dp/B08GTYFC37
