Why is there no zoom on the Nexus 5 camera?
Does anyone know if they are going to add the feature in the future?

What do you mean, exactly?

Open the camera app, tap the screen anywhere once, then place two fingers on the screen and spread them apart to zoom.

Works for me.

There is, but it is gesture based. You pinch/spread to zoom in and out.

Digital zoom is almost worthless for photos. It is not actually adding anything. All it is doing is basically cropping in real time...my advice is to ignore it and just crop the pictures yourself in photoshop or an app on your phone (like the "edit" function in the gallery app). You will get much better results. Digital zoom can sometimes be useful for video, but you will see the degradation of the image...it is very noticeable.

Zoom functions have very little value on smartphones in general IMO. Optical zoom is what you want, but phones are too small to have the lenses needed for it.

Real zoom is a hardware feature through adjustable lenses. Digital/software zoom is a nearly "useless" feature... it is really nothing but cropping, which you can do with ANY photo editor (including Gallery). But like others said, you can use gestures (wouldn't it be nice one day if Google added some HELP to apps?)
