Computer on for VNC access?

Is there a remote login app that could access my macbook's desktop screen even if it were off. If not, can it still access the desktop if it were in sleep mode or have a screensaver?

I use splashtop remote desktop. Its not free, but it works pretty well in my experiences. I have never used it to turn my computer on, but apparently you can set it for Wake on LAN and to wake the computer from sleep mode. Again, I've never tried it on a mac either, but it is supposed to have that ability If i remember correctly.

Since it's not free, just do some research on it first. It requires a serverside installation on your computer as well, but that part IS free.
