S3 in Japan

I can't seem to get a working mobile data service in Japan using my Verizon S3 (i535) rooted and with the ability to change the APN.

I was just in Hong Kong and able to use a local SIM card with no problem.

I'm now in Japan, using the b-mobile Visitor SIM 1GB (b-mobile VISITOR SIM | b-mobile wireless internet). When I place the SIM card in the phone, it basically states that I have no service and mobile data does not work.

The SIM is activated, and I have the correct APN. I have tried putting the phone in Global mode, GSM only and LTE/CDMA only to no avail. I can see that the SIM registers on the network, but states that I have no signal (which I have heard will happen since the SIM has no voice service associated with it.)

Any ideas or luck doing this in the past? Is there another provider in Japan that will work with the Verizon variant of the S3? Google has not been helpful in this regard...
