Text message interface awfully crowded

Is it me, or is the text message interface really crowded? It seems like there's barely room for the most recent message, the compose window, and the onscreen keyboard. I should add that I use the SwiftKey keyboard with the key height set to "small." Is there anything that can be done, aside from shrinking the messages themselves, to give the interface a little more breathing room? My DNA didn't seem as cramped as this (though the screen didn't need to make space for the interface keys--they were part of the case).

Just wondering if I'm the only one doing some head-scratching over this.

I agree, I don't like having to hide the keyboard to see the messages. Even when you do, you still have the reply box taking up too much room.

I have this problem too. The only way is to either shrink the font size, close the keyboard or get a third party messaging app.

The Verizon Messages SMS app leaves plenty of room to see the message stream while typing on Swiftkey.
