why does audio cut out on my moto g5 plus when listening to whatsapp audio messages?

when i´m listening to a voice message sent to me on whatsapp and pass my hand over the front of my phone,the sound cuts out .if i leave my hand there in position the sound comes back but at a reduced level.Is this a cool secret function i´ve just discovered?

i just discovered why this happens and it´s no secret at all.It´s the sensor that reduces the sound when you put the phone to your ear.Dohhhhh
