losing Gmail sync???

I have Verizon Droid Maxx with KitKat, when I am in a area where I have no verzion signal for a couple hours the phone tells me it can't sync. when I get to where I have signal again I am forced to reenter all the passwords for my gmail accounts. I never had this problem with my Droid Maxx Hd. So the question is...is it a KitKat problem or a Droid Maxx problem? A friend of mine has the same phone and OS and she has the same problem.

I have a Verizon Nexus 7 with KitKat, and I have never experienced this problem. So it is not a general issue with KitKat and Verizon.
