broken accelerometer and Doze?

A few months back the accelerometer sensor on my N5 got flakey and then stopped working altogether. (I can't take panos, rotate screen, etc.)

I read that Doze works by using accelerometer data. If the accelerometer isn't reporting anything, does Doze still function or is it like it doesn't exist at all?

Interesting question. With a broken accelerometer, does your phone think it's always in motion or never moving? Seems to me that doze will work if the phone thinks it is stationary. It's not a hard experiment - just charge up your phone, unplug when it reaches 100%, and don't touch it for several hours, better yet overnight. Then check the battery usage - if the decline line is really really flat, doze is working.
