Missing notifications

I updated my S5 (Verizon) with the July update. Before, my text, email, etc. notifications would show without my entering my passcode, allowing me to quickly determine if I needed to get on. All I had to do was light it up the phone with the power button. Now, I have bring up that tiny keyboard and type in my passcode just to see if I have any notifications. This happened in the last update, too, but it reset on its own in a couple of days. Hasn't happened this time. This is a major nuisance. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
