Auto transfer photos from SD Card fails

[AC Question]

I'd like to be able to auto transfer photos from my camera's SD card into my Galaxy S5 tablet using a card reader that plugs into the tablet. I purchased the card reader, and I can use file manager apps to see the photo files on the external SD card. However, I have to manually import them; nothing pops up on the tablet when the card (in the card reader) is plugged in. Shouldn't the tablet automatically see them and ask if I want to import them? My tablet doesn't do that.

No, tablets don't do that. Windows does, but not Android.
