Lound message notification during phone call

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with Verizon.

I have to make sure I get text messages for my job. I have the loudest ring tone I can find for my message notification. However, when I am on a phone call, I only hear two soft beeps. I don't want to miss a text message while on a phone call. My old phone used to send the same notification weather I was on a call or not.

I already have the "notify during calls" box checked. My problem is that the two soft beeps are too quiet.

Maybe being on a call a different way will help. I think if you are connected to your phone with a Bluetooth headset, that should allow you to leave the phone face up allowing you to see the notification.

First off - have you gone in to Device - Sound - Volume and increased the Notification slider to max?
Also in Sound - Samsung applications - Call - Call alerts - Alerts during calls is checked.

Then in Sound - Samsung applications - Message - Notifications is checked.
If you have Adapt sound on try that off.

Not sure if you have covered these already. I have a Note 3 but the settings options should be similar.
