Why does my mobile network state show disconnected?

Mobile network state shows "disconnected"

I have a zte phone running android ver 2.3.7 everytime i do a software update the phone appears to be updating but then after a while i get "network error".

Now my mobile network state shows "disconnected". Any suggestions? Or the two even related?

I've already tried the power off suggestion didn't work.

Have you checked that your SIM card is not faulty?
