When I plug my headphones in no sound comes out

Welcome to Android Central! Which device? Have you tried other headphones? Have you tried the current headphones on a different device? Is the plug pushed all the way in? You should feel or hear a click when it's in all the way. Have you checked to see if there is any debris in the jack? Use a damp toothpick to root around, or a can of compressed air to blow it out.
