Why do I only get an internet connect when on wifi?

no wifi connection = no data connection

Even though I have bars showing a good data connection, but there is an exclamation point in the data icon. This recently started happening. So even when I turn wifi off at home the exclamation point comes up immediately in the data icon. Thanks for your help.

Had you set a data limit on the Data Usage graph. Just my first guess.
Also check Network Mode set for correct data and Access Point Names has all APN settings in More Networks - Mobile Networks.
You may have About Device - Status showing all is correct.
