my emojis wont show up in the other persons phone

I always send emojis when texting. But my friend,who has an iphone, says that instead of seeing the emojis,she sees a question mark

Emojis are still hit and miss between platforms. You'd think there'd be a consistent standard... but there's not. Instant messaging seems to work fine, but when it comes to SMS/MMS there's no universal solution.
