How can i prevent my contacts from continuing to duplicat?

I cleaned up my contacts to 1 for each person/business etc. Over a few weeks, many of the contacts duplicated to as many as 20 each.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Accounts, and check each account to see if there are more than one that are syncing contacts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.). If so, uncheck those checkboxes, and just allow Google to sync contacts.
