Is it possible to disable a lock that I didn't put on my phone?

I think my roommate took my phone when I thought I had last it, but details aside I think he took it, and put a lock on my phone. I tried locking it using Android Device Manager, but since my screen is already locked it said that it can't really do anything. I don't want to have to erase my phone, but if that's really the only way I'll get over it. Just thought I'd at least check it out.

Try changing your password via your Google account online....or are you saying that you tried this unsuccessfully?

Be sure also to sue your roommate for compensation for damage to property.

I'm not the most tech savvy so what exactly would I have to do in order to do that?

First, what are you presented with when you try to access your phone? Are you instructed to enter a PIN, or what? What sort of lock has your roommate possibly put on the phone?

Its a password so like the full keyboard pops up instead of the dial pad. So I assume its a phrase of some sort.

I'm not an expert on Android Device Manager but I understand that by logging into it on a PC, you can reset your PIN or password.
