How do you turn off 'pushing' new emails to android lollipop email apps?

Just got a new LG G4. I downloaded the Xfinity app (for my Comcast email) and also use the app supplied for my GMAIL. Is there a way to prevent either (or both) apps from getting new emails automatically? I want to get the new emails only when I request them.

Welcome to the forums. With Gmail, if you go into Settings>accounts>Google>click you email>you can uncheck different aspects of Google Services. Gmail should be in the list. If you uncheck it, I think that will stop the push notifications.

I am not sure if this is the same for the Xfinity app.
