Retrieve photos from shattered Moto X

[AC Question]

My Moto X suffered a horrible accident that left the screen shattered and the back is coming apart from the front. All I want to do is retrieve my pictures. I did not have pictures backed up on the cloud (won't be making that mistake again). The USB port was undamaged. I plugged it into my computer and at first it recognized it. I was able to open the DCIM folder and even the camera. As the thumbnails were loading (I could see my pictures), suddenly the file went away, and now I can't even get my computer to pick up my phone when I plug it in. I just want my pictures of my baby that are on the phone. Everything else is replaceable. I should mention the Moto X does not have an SD card. Is there any hope?

Welcome to Android Central! Was there a screenlock set? If so, the computer can't access the phone if the screen is locked. Try this method: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...de-accessing-locked-phone-cracked-screen.html

No. There was no lock screen. I connected it using USB, the device opened on my computer. I was able to see the pictures loading, then suddenly it all went away and now my laptop can't even find my phone.

The motherboard might have just been hanging on, then failed. Or it might be a damaged microUSB port.
