Does android keep up with how many login attempt?

I have an old android phone that I had password protected a few years ago. I got a new phone and kept this one around as my just in case phone. Well, just in case has happened but I can't remember the code. Every five times I try to log in it tells me to wait 30 seconds and try again. After the next five it said 10 login attempts wait thirty seconds. I'm worried that I'm going to reach 15 and it will wipe the whole phone. If I shut it down and restart it will it reset the login attempt?

The simplest solution is to log in to Android Device Manager using your Google account details and reset your device security details from there.
