How can I get my Google Voice number to only show for certain people?

A

AC Question

I recently added google voice (after a TON of difficulty) to my Samsung Galaxy 4 from Sprint for work purposes. I work with a student population and needed a number that wasn't my personal cell for them to call. I got my google number, it seems to work fine -- yay!

But now ALL of my contacts see that number when I text or call from my phone. I went in to the google.com/voice site and changed my friends, family, etc. groups to only see my personal phone number, however they are still seeing the google number.

Is there a solution to this that I'm missing or is this just something I have to deal with?

Use Google Voice set to allow you to choose whether to use it for each call. Then it's just a click to decide which number the called party sees.

For text, you can probably (although I've never tried it) set Hangouts to use your GV number.)
