Why can't I get my fm transmitter to work right in my car?

The sales person told me all I had to do was plug my transmitter into my cig. holder and it would automatically work, they were wrong, I'm trying to fix it where my maps and calls I get come through my radio speakers so I can hear them. Help.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Is it paired with the FM transmitter? Is the car radio tuned in to the proper FM frequency?

Go to Settings>Bluetooth--is the transmitter listed there? If so, tap the gear icon associated with it, and make sure Media Audio and Phone Audio are both checked on.
