Why do my camera pops up and takes pictures without being activated?

I noticed in my gallery that I had random pics of me or just where i was at...I thought nothing of it until it was brought to my attention that my camera could be hacked. I also notice i will get a random text from an email and i never thought anything about it. After paying more attention to my phone I notice other apps would pop up without me activating then, I will click on one app it will open then it will go another app I did not download which I just assumed it came with the phone. If my camera is hacked would a factory reset work to resolved the issue. ( HTC 1 M8)

I would try clearing the cache of the camera app first: system settings > applications > sort by all > camera > clear cache.

If that doesn't work then perform a factory reset. Be sure to backup important content first as that would erase everything on the device, including text messages and call logs.
