How to I close all open app 'windows' in Moto G3 2015?

The app windows are visible in a cascade and sometimes it's useful to keep one open when opening another, such as when gathering data from one app to input into another, but when I want to close them all at once, it's too time-consuming to have to press the 'x' on each tile. Sometimes there can be 15 to 20 open if it's a busy day.

Is there a way to close them all at once?

Also, when they are open are they using more memory, data or battery?

There's not an option to close all of them at once. You can tap on the X or swipe them left or right. Apps included in that overview are not necessarily running and using resources, you don't need to worry too much about that.
