Speakers (jack connected) won't work

[AC Question]

I have a Samsung galaxy A3 with android 5.02 and I have Philips speakers which connect through a 3.55mm jack (the basic headphone/earphone/speaker output cable but when I plug them into my phone I get no notification like when I put earphones in and when I try to play music it just plays from the phone's speakers. I know that these speakers work, and so the issue must be something I'm missing in the phone, please help, thank you.

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried another set of headphones? Perhaps the jack in your phone isn't working?
