Samsung Galaxy S4 External Mic

I upgraded from the Galaxy S3 thinking I was getting a better phone. Well in some cases it is a better phone, better camera and recording features. However unlike the S3 the S4 doesn't allow an external mic to be plugged in. Why is this? I do a lot of video work with the S4 and having an external mic for better audio is a must. I use a Boya M1 Lav Mic which worked and sounded great with the S3. Why can't I use it with the S4? Is there an adapter available for it?

There's no reason it shouldn't work - the shell is ground and the first ring up from the shell is mic+ on both of them.
