I can't open google search on my android phone

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data? Do other Google apps work normally, like the Play Store or Gmail? What about other apps that access the web, like the browser?

I'm actually having this issue. It happened on the latest version of Lollipop and even after upgrading to Marshmallow last night. I'll have Chrome open and use the search bar within the browser to search. Nothing happens after typing my search then pressing Enter or the Search icon. However, if I type my search in the address bar of Chrome, it works perfectly fine. Why is this? I've not ventured toward a factory reset yet but getting there quick.

Thoughts?
