Why deleted contacts from old phone show up on new phone

[AC Question]

Last night I synced my new phone via Bluetooth to my car and old contacts appeared on the address book, these haven't been contacted using this phone or since about 2013, I'm confused do the contacts and email addresses get saved to the sim ?

Welcome to Android Central Do you always save your contacts to your Google account or the local Phone account? If you save them to your Google account, then they will sync to any phone where you log into your Google account. Are the contacts visible on the new phone, or only in the car?

Did you check your Google account to see if the contacts were there? You might need to removed them from there first.
