How do i remove scratches?

I have an Acer Iconia10 recently and I've noticed that it has been slowly but surely getting some minor scratches. Some are hardly noticeable but there is one thin but rather long scratch right down the middle of the screen and while it does not affect my usage of the device it does get annoying to look at, especially considering how careful i am with my device. I've a case for it and it's never removed from it. So how the scratches got there I am unsure but any help I can get to remove them would be greatly appreciated. They are very thin almost hair like scratches but I fear using anything too abrasive would make it worse. If I am wrong in this assumption then please let me know and tell me what works best.

I've read toothpaste or baking soda but an unsure.

The method you mention will work on plastic, but not glass, unless perhaps you polish for about 500 years.
