Phone cuts out during calls, or other people can't hear me

At times, I will be on the phone, and after some time (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes), my phone will cut out and lose the other person, but won't hang up for another 5-10 seconds.
Sometimes I try and call back, but often he can't hear me, but I can hear him. The call connects, but something is wrong with it. It is not on mute. And, this is a minute after we were having a normal conversation.
Now, I do live in an area with spotty service, but I know spots where I actually have service, and this happens when I have not moved at all.

What phone do you have, and what carrier do you have?

I have a Galaxy Express Prime and use AT&T. It is a prepaid phone, but I have never had issues with the prepaid nature of them before.

Are you saying this phone used to work properly, or is this a new phone you just got to replace a different phone?

Have you tried getting a new SIM from AT&T?

I got this phone two months ago, and it was a new SIM card when I got the phone. It has been cutting out on me and doing this for at least a month, possibly longer. It doesn't always cut out on me, just sometimes and it is completely random. Today, it was after 17 minutes of talking to someone, and when I tried to call back, he couldn't hear me but I could hear him.
