How do I reinstall google services updates when google play stops when I try to open?

I was getting the "unfortunately google play has stopped" message. So I deleted the updates in google play store and gp services. Rebooted and tried to bring up google play. It stopped again! I went into apps and saw that I got the updates returned in the gp store but when I checked the gp services there were no updates. After some playing around I got back into gp and brought up the gp services updates app for installation but when I hit the updates button gp stopped running again! HELP!! I hope this makes sense! JR

I am having the exact same problem after "upgrading" to the latest version of OxygenOS on Rogers in Canada. None of the fixes I saw online worked...such as removing my Google account and then reinstating it, resetting permissions on Google Play Services, etc. It's frustrating, as I can't update Google Play services when Google Play keeps crashing.
