Why have groups if you cannot access them in messenger???

I would like to send a group text without picking them individually from EVERY CONTACT IN THE LIST. Any remedy, like a different app or is this inherent in 6.0.1

Most texting apps can access groups. (And another reason for them is in looking for a contact, even for a phone call. Would you rather look through 2,000 contacts, or 5 doctors in the "doctors" group?)
