Does android automatically encrypts sd card ?

Hello dear friends!
I used to store backup data on my external sd card in case my phone will brake. Recently I noticed windows cannot read the sd card when connected via usb card reader.
I think that the sd card got encrypted automatically by the phone without my interference.
Is there a way I can unmount the sd card from the phone and browse it via windows?

No. You have to deliberately encrypt. I sometimes just pull the card and plug into card reader or pc. Just don't format it as that will erase all data.
