Unrooting

My microphone stopped working on my Razr Maxx, and I am being sent a warranty replacement. I have tried unrooting, and although I have mostly succeeded, the phone still has partial root status. (Mobile hotspot is still working, for instance.) When I reboot, the green android with "gears"shows up, which I'm assuming is not what happens on a non rooted phone. Also, I can't do a factory reet. It turns off, the green android with the red exclamation point shows up, hangs around for awhile, and then the phone reboots. It never wipes my data. I need to get this resolved before I return it. Any help would be appreciated. I can reroot if I need to start all over again.
