need help with file transfer using phone

so i am going to get a new phone and get my maxx hd repaired... i am trying to transfer data to my computer but i am having a problem doing so. I connect the cable to computer and it detects my phone. however, when i start copying it "calculates disk space" for a long time but i noticed if i unplug the data cable it shows some progress in the background (like an empty folder)... if i were to replace folders i get "are you sure you want to replace" warning AFTER i unplug the cable... i am not sure whats going on here... any suggestions? thanks

Try using a wireless file transfer app like WiFi File Explorer or AirDroid.
