My email reply from computer doesn't appear on phone

I received an email on my phone (HTC Incredible) and computer (IMAP account).

I replied from the computer. I can see the reply in the sent folder on my computer and in the thread (using the gmail interface).

On the phone, I do not see the reply (it was sent from the computer many hours ago). I would expect to be able to see my reply to the sender on my phone as well.

What have I done wrong?

The account as IMAP didn't show any replies sent from PC on the phone.

When I set it up as a Gmail account on phone, it showed the thread with original email and replies sent from computer...on the phone.
