Music can't be heard while notification is ringing?

Hi everyone! My gf's Sony Xperia P running Sony's Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and using the Walkman app, has this issue: when she receives a notification and is listening to music, the music can no longer be heard while the notification is ringing, but it's still being played, so a little of the song is missed. This becomes a problem when she has notifications coming over and over. We tried to solve this using the method of switching off the notification sound in the player settings (here is where I got it), but that option is missing.

Do you guys have any idea of how to solve this?
