i get a call from a cell phone on speakerphone but the words come through all jumbled the

When someone calls me on their speakerphone I hear it jumbled

As in, their words sound muffled or unintelligible? Could it be your speakers? Any recent drops to your phone or other hardware damage? What do your contacts say about the sound quality on their end?
